Supporting Statement for the Survey Instrumentation of the Second Follow-Up Survey for the High School Class of 1972.
Research Triangle Inst., Durham, NC. Center for Educational Research and Evaluation.
This document supports the survey questionnaire to be administered to a sample of over 22,000 young adults in the second follow-up of the National Longitudinal Study of the High School Class of 1972. Data collection activities were scheduled to start in October 1974 and be completed by March 1975. The field test of the survey questionnaire, techniques for handling non-response, the contractor's role, and the need for maintaining data confidentiality are discussed. Subsequent sections of the report discuss publication plans, basic tabulations and analytical models, time schedules, consultations outside the sponsoring agency, and average time required to complete the questionnaire. The appendix contains a detailed account of the field test, and recommendations for the full-scale second follow-up survey. Subjects in the field test were 903 young people representing a probability sample of seniors from the high school class of 1971. Analysis of the field test data focused on four major concerns: (1) instrument response; (2) item response; (3) skip pattern errors; and (4) composite measure analysis. The questionnaires used for the field test and for the second follow-up, and various correspondence are also included. (CP)
