Construction of an Infant and Preschool Developmental Record. Final Report.
Burdon, Barry E.; Teasdale, G. R.
The purpose of the Developmental Record Research Project was to construct an infant and child development record which could be used by paraprofessionals and those without training in test administration to monitor the developmental progress of children from birth to age 5. The project method, described in detail in this report, involved (1) selecting items of behavior which were indicative of development and coulld easily be observed and recorded, (2) establishing age norms for the behavior items, (3) developing format for an administration and scoring guide, (4) establishing reliability and validity, and (5) writing a set of administrative procedures. The third and final draft of the Developmental Record for Infants and Young Children, included in this volume, contains the following categories of behavior items: language, cognitive-adaptive, fine motor, personal-social, and gross motor. The corresponding nine behavior checklists were age normed at 0-6 months, 5-10 months, 8-16 months, 14-20 months, 18-24 months, 22-28 months, 26-36 months, 34-46 months, and 44-60 months. Detailed technical data and notes on selected items, method of selection of sample, standardization questionnaire, scoring procedures, and screening are appended. (Author/CM)
