The utilization and impact of computer terminology on various modes of learning in our society was the focus of six hearings which included testimony from experts, supporting papers, reports, and additional commentaries. A successful application of computer assisted instruction for drill and practice in the basic skills was described in the initial hearing. The second discussed three major computer assisted structural systems developed over the past 15 years--the Computer Curriculum Corporation's drill and practice materials, the University of Illinois PLATO project, and the Brigham Young University and Mitre Corporation TICCIT project. The third hearing focused on the findings and direction of current research development, and response and comment to the first three hearings was included in the fourth. The role of the computer in aiding education of the handicapped was the topic of the fifth, while the final hearing discussed education of the gifted child and included a statement in behalf of computers in the learning society.
