Restructuring a College to Meet Postsecondary Educational Needs of "Non-College-Age Women." Concluding Evaluation Report.
Marchese, Theodore J.
A project to enroll and serve "non-college-age" women at Barat College, Illinois, is described. The 18-month project was designed to develop new college-community ties, increase substantially the numbers of women returning to college, restructure internally to meet new identified educational needs, and provide cross-generational learning formats for all students. All students were to be integrated in a single institutional program addressed to life-span educational needs of women. The college founded an office of continuing education, enrolled 168 women during the first year, and disseminated information to the community through mailings, press stories, and personal visits. A discussion is presented on: basic facts about continuing education students at the college; faculty reaction and departmental impacts; attitudes among "traditional age" students; administrative coping with problems and issues raised by the influx of returning women; and the present status of the college with a "cross-generational" student population. A program evaluation was conducted and seven reports were produced. (SW)
