Building for School and Community. II: France. Programme on Educational Building.
Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, Paris (France).
This report is volume 2 in a series of studies conducted and published by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Programme on Educational Building (PEB) on the theme of coordination of school and community facilities. The report is intended to illustrate by means of concrete examples the general conclusions on coordination of school and community facilities that were published in the first volume of the series "Policies and Strategies." Three other volumes to be published will contain examples of developments in the United States, England/Australia, and Sweden. This volume reports in particular on the Centre Educatif et Culturel, at Istres, one of the first school and community centers of its kind in France. In addition to providing detailed information on the aims and history of the project, the programming and design method use, and the way the Centre functions at present, the project's difficulties and successes are analyzed. Complementing this material is a brief presentation of the context and the main trends that are characteristic of facilities coordination in France. In addition, the volume describes the method used by urban planners responsible for designing and constructing a major housing complex in Evry New Town to coordinate facilities and integrate them in their environment.
