This description of career education activities in the Highline Public Schools (Seattle, Washington) was prepared as part of a study conducted to identify evaluated, exemplary career education activities which represent the best of the current career education programs and practices referred to in Public Law 93-380. (See CE 018 212 for the final report of this study.) This document describes one of the ten projects that were selected from among 250 projects submitted. It presents one locale's way of successfully implementing a career education activity, the results of which are educationally significant. Each of the ten projects reported is described in terms of project overview; program development; materials and activities; parent and community involvement; staffing and management; costs; evidence of effectiveness; and conclusions. The ultimate goal of the Highline Equality Project was to expand students' perceptions of occupations open to females and those to males. (The specific objectives dealt primarily with the acquisition and development of media and materials that enhance the availability of choice for all students in the elementary classroom and reflect the changing definition of "women's work.") The primary subjects are identified as K-6 students from a predominantly white, middle-class neighborhood, and the evaluation design is described as a pre- and posttest design using comparable groups of treatment and control students.
