This description of career education activities in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was prepared as part of a study conducted to identify evaluated, exemplary career education activities which represent the best of the current career education programs and practices referred to in Public Law 93-380. (See CE 018 212 for the final report of this study.) This document describes one of ten projects selected from 250. It presents one locale's way of successfully implementing a career education activity, the results of which are educationally significant. Described for each of the ten projects are project overview, program development, materials and activities, parent and community involvement, staffing and management, costs, evidence of effectiveness, and conclusions. Ultimate goals of this--the Educational Progress in Careers (EPIC)--project were: (1) incorporate employers' and other business leaders' concerns into the concepts of career education; (2) collaboratively develop an instrument to assess whether career education has been implemented according to those concepts; and (3) develop valid and reliable instruments to assess student career education outcomes. Content validity, usability, construct validity and reliability of the instruments are described. (BM)
