Making Health Education Work.
Simmons, Jeannette, Ed.
The information assembled here presents an overall picture of how health education principles were applied in the past decade to health programs serving low-income and minority groups. Ideas, experience, and advice were drawn together from over 100 health education programs, and 17 of these were examined in fine detail at three regional workshops; a national conference of experts then summarized the results for publication. Guidelines are provided in the text for initiating participation and involvement in health programs and for developing, implementing, and assessing the programs, as well as garnering and maintaining support. Suggestions are made for strengthening educational efforts, and deficiencies are pointed out. Appendices provide: (1) three specific project descriptions; (2) steps in program planning; (3) a list of workshop participants; and (4) a list of the participants in the health education conference. A selected bibliography is also included. (DS)
