In 1977 Kentucky's public high schools produced 41,558 graduates; 38.2% of these were recorded as entering college and 44.7% as entering some type of formal educational program beyond high school. Non-public high schools graduated 4,018 students; 60.7% were recorded as entering college and 67.3% as entering some kind of formal education program. Of the ninth graders enrolled in Kentucky schools in 1973-74, 67.6% graduated in 1977. As compared to the class of 1964, there was an increase of 9,573 or 26.6%. Data sources were the principals' annual reports, superintendents' end of year reports, and the "Biennial Report of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction". Tabular data includes a comparison of the whereabouts of the 1964 and 1977 graduates, the enrollment pattern over the past four years of the 1974 ninth graders, and the whereabouts of 1977 graduates of public, non-public and combined schools. Part I of the report provides an overview of the number and whereabouts of 1977 graduates of all public and non-public high schools. Part II measures holding power with tables showing survival rates from ninth grade and whereabouts of graduates of the ten graduating classes of public, non-public and combined high schools from 1968 to 1977.
