Holding Power and Graduates. Kentucky Public and Non-Public High Schools, May, 1974 Classes. 19th Annual Report.
Kentucky State Dept. of Education, Frankfort. Div. of Educational Research.
In 1974 Kentucky's 289 public high schools produced 41,522 graduates, or 68.5% of the ninth grade enrollment in 1970-71. The 46 non-public high schools graduated 3,297 students, or 77% of the 1971 ninth graders. From all high schools 38.3% were reported as enrolling in college. Compared to the class of 1962, the increase in the number of graduates is 17,027 or 61.6%. Directly attributable to increased holding power is 6,668 or one in ten 1974 graduates. Data sources are principals' annual reports, superintendents' end of year reports, and the "Biennial Report of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction". Three tables in Part I of this report show the number and whereabouts of 1974 graduates of public and non-public high schools, separately and combined. Also included is a comprehensive overview by county and region of total ninth grade enrollment, graduates, and total graduates reported enrolling in college. Part II measures holding power with a summary of ten graduating classes of public, non-public and combined high schools from 1965 to 1974. Data includes survival rates from ninth grade and whereabouts of graduates. A final summary consolidates public and non-public schools in two tables showing relative county standings in holding power, graduates, and survival rate of ninth grade to college. (DS)
