Pre-Service and In-Service Training of Georgia Correctional Personnel. An Interim Evaluation (1-091).
Nosin, Jerome A.
Evaluation activities related to the Orientation Training Program (OTP) are summarized. The OTP is a three-week program which includes orientation, human relations training and security. Correctional officers were found to be more authoritarian and security-conscious than non-correctional personnel. Scores of correctional officers in Communication Skills and Behavior Modification were lower than the control group, but the amount of increase was greater. A significant relationship existed between percentages of trained staff and escape rates. Performance rating scales measured Job Responsibilities and Communication Facilitation, and Job Satisfaction was assessed as lower than the national average. (BN)
