The purpose of this current research effort was to identify and validate the effectiveness of alternative learning strategies. Learners employing networking and interactive peer study substrategies achieved more than did no-treatment controls. Similarly, strategies-trained learners reported greater positive learning attitude changes than did controls. Although strategy components were perceived favorably by learners, the executive strategy (MURDER), networking, peer learning, and concentration management strategies were the most highly rated. (MURDER is an acronym standing for key words in a series of six steps in the comprehension/retention executive routine. The key words are mood, understand, recall, digest, expand, and review.)
