This model is for use by State education agencies, local school districts or individual school staffs. It is designed to assess the degree of understanding and awareness of school board members, staff and students in how and why role stereotyping occurs, and how to go about reducing role stereotyping in the school environment. Compiled of materials that address minority group and sex role stereotyping, gathered from six states comprising the Upper Midwest Regional Interstate Project, this model has three sections. Section I discusses the components of minority and sex role stereotyping, how they originate, what purpose they serve and how to recognize them. Section II is the implementation model itself which outlines the process through which state or local education agencies and/or student and parent groups can investigate minority and sex role stereotyping in their school(s). Section III is a resource packet containing sample evaluation and assessment instruments and bibliographies intended to assist in: (1) the definition and discussion of the problems of minority and sex role stereotyping; and (2) the operationalizing of the implementation model itself.
