A methodology for evaluating faculty work performance was discussed, using data obtained from a typical liberal arts college faculty. Separate evaluations of teaching effectiveness and of overall contributions to the college for 45 full-time faculty (85% response rate) were collected from administrators, faculty colleagues, students, and from the professors themselves. The reliability and validity of quality ratings followed Cartter (1966). Independent questionnaire data on demographic variables, professional attitudes and opinions, personality measures, job satisfaction, and perceived stress in the work situation gave correlation coefficients whose sign was predicted from role theory. These measures added to construct validity. The procedure satisfied statistical tests for reliability and validity. Practical suggestions for use of this method are included. (Author/CTM)
