Uncharted Territory: Issues and Concerns of Women over 40.
Block, Marilyn R.; And Others
The curriculum guide presents 14 modular units for teaching a college-level course about older women (age 40 and above). An introduction discusses the need for and lack of literature or research about older women and their specific personal, financial, and social problems. It also suggests instructional approaches, consideration of students' individual experiences with aging, and importance of input from older women. The 14 units treat the following topics: stereotypes of older women, a demographic profile of the older woman, menopause and sexuality, health and medical issues, mental health and related issues, life patterns, family relationships, social networks, widowhood and death, older women and the legal system, employment and retirement, social security and pensions, continuing education, and ethnic and racial variations. An annotated filmography describes over 100 films about middle-aged and older women, and a bibliography lists approximately 1,000 books and articles. (AV)
