Alternative Education in Louisiana. Descriptions of Selected Programs.
Limar, Eugene; Edmonston, George P., Jr.
The purpose of this publication is to present the reader with brief descriptions of selected alternative schools and programs operating in Louisiana in 1976. Descriptions of many of the better-known types of alternative programs are found, including those that deal with college-bound students, alternatives to suspension/expulsion, and schools/programs for the vocationally oriented and the over-aged. Special emphasis has been given to descriptions of alternatives for those students whose inability to adjust to a "regular" school environment causes unpleasant educational experiences for them as well as for their teachers. After an overview of alternative education, descriptions of 27 alternative programs are given. Along with a narrative describing the schools/programs, information, when available, is provided in the following categories: contact person, grade level of students, number of students enrolled, source of funding, level of funding, and cost per student.
