Public Relations. American School Band Directors' Association, Research Committee Reports for the 18th Annual Convention, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 1970.
American School Band Directors Association, Newark, OH.
The guide, one in a series of committee reports relating to school band performance, organization, and equipment needs, is intended to aid band directors as they develop public relations programs. The materials were developed in response to widespread need expressed by ASBDA members in a 1969 survey for assistance in drawing up press releases, involving parents in band programs, providing printed materials to parents of band students, developing materials for justifying instrumental music, and increasing community awareness of band needs and activities. The document presents 21 materials which have been developed by band directors throughout the United States. Materials include audition letters to prospective band members, letters of congratulation to band members following a musical performance, rehearsal schedules, school newsletter articles regarding band activities, requests for parents and community members to join an orchestra boosters club, band meeting announcements, and tips to parents regarding ways to help students with home practice.
