Writing Objectives for Learning Packages.
Hansen, Patricia A.; Guenther, John E.
The guide is intended for preservice and inservice teachers on all levels as they prepare and implement behavioral objectives and learning packages. Behavioral objectives are statements which describe what students will be able to do after completing a prescribed unit of instruction. Learning activity packages are self-instructional and self-paced learning systems that enable a learner to achieve objectives by becoming involved in individually selected activities. Arranged in four sections, the guide begins with definitions, rationale, assumptions, and discussion of the importance of behavioral objectives to learning packages. Section II examines the classification of learning behavior into cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. Section III explains how to write behavioral objectives for learning packages. Activities involve readers in identifying behavioral and non-behavioral statements listing and labeling behavioral objectives, and writing objectives. The final section focuses on adapting behavioral objectives to learning packages. The appendix includes charts of behavior taxonomies, references, answers to activity questions, level-specific behavioral terminology, and illustrative verbs. (Author/BC)
