The Learning Resource Model in a School System.
Hardy, Madeline I.
The learning resource teacher serves in a variety of modes (including assessment, intensive individual instruction with specific learning disability students, and provision of advice and/or materials to teachers). The role of the learning resource teacher is much broader than that of the remedial specialist in that she is a catalyst in the development of resources and materials, in the use of volunteers and tutors in the schools, and in the exploration of new methods of service delivery and instruction. The classroom teacher is the key to the ultimate success of any intervention and must retain responsibility for the student's progress. The goal, then, of the learning resource system is the enhancement of the teacher's skill to handle basic instruction well and to deal with learning disabilities and other exceptionalities as they develop, with the support of the learning resource teacher.
