Educational Scholarship Guide for Vietnam POW/MIA Dependents.
Veterans Administration, Washington, DC.
This guide is designed to help the dependent child of a parent officially listed by the Department of Defense as a Prisoner of War (POW) or as Missing in Action (MIA) in Southeast Asia to locate possible sources of financial assistance for postsecondary education. The first two sections cover the three origins of benefits available: the state, the Federal Veterans Administration (VA), and private scholarships. For each state, the specific law that applies to educational aid for POW/MIA dependents is cited; eligibility requirements are outlined; the benefits are described, including the location of schools where they may be applied; and addresses for additional information and application forms are given. Section 3 outlines how to obtain the facts and forms needed to apply for financial aid, including the service report of casualty form, the VA claim number, a social security number, proof of residence, birth certificate, and adoption or legal custody certificate. Additional sources for information are listed in section 4. (ELG)
