An Evaluation of Project LEAP, E.S.E.A. Title I Program of Medford, Massachusetts, 1975-1976.
Kovner, Albert; And Others
This report consists of a description, evaluation, and supporting data of an elementary school level Title I program. The Medford, Massachusetts Elementary and Secondary Education Act Title I program for the 1975-76 school year was conducted in thirteen public and parochial schools. The program provided reading and language arts instruction, physical education, speech therapy and counseling. It was supported by extensive inservice staff development efforts and a highly involved parent advisory council. Substantial gains were made in tests of reading vocabulary and comprehension, language, spelling, phonics and word analysis in grades two through six. Kindergarten children made significant gains in knowledge of letters and sounds and in aural comprehension. Children selected for physical education made gains in most areas of a test of psychomotor development. Positive changes in behavior and attitudes were also in evidence in the children as a whole at the end of the program year. (Author/GC)
