This self-instructional text presents information on the design and development of curricular materials. Three broad divisions provide a framework for the text. Part I, "Background to Instructional Design," examines the goals of education, psychological bases of instruction, determination of subject matter, and necessary skills in formulating objectives. Part II, "Theoretical Rationale for Instructional Design," reviews instructional theory necessary for lesson design and writing, evaluation, school administration and inservice training, and systems approaches to instructional design. Part III, "Applied Instructional Design," discusses the analysis and structuring of behavioral objectives, cirterion-referenced test construction, lesson writing, and management system design. Each of the units is composed of the following components: rationale, terminal objectives, prerequisite objectives, hierarchy of objectives, study guides, overview, bibliography, references, posttest and pretest.
