To evaluate the long-term benefits of attendance at Moraine Valley Community College (MVCC), a three-year follow-up study was conducted of the 620 1974 graduates (324 transfer and 296 occupational students). Each graduate was sent a questionnaire collecting information on involvement with MVCC after graduation, present educational status, evaluations of MVCC programs and services, opinions of MVCC, whether they would recommend their college major to friends, most valuable educational experiences, present employment status and MVCC relevance to jobs, job mobility, usefulness of the MVCC degree in securing current jobs, suggestions for improvement of MVCC education or training, and training received beyond the MVCC degree. Questionnaire response rate was 43%. The majority of respondents maintained some contact with MVCC. Ninety percent were working, 66% in the field or a field related to their MVCC studies; 25% were enrolled in educational institutions. Graduates rated MVCC programs and services helpful particularly in personal development, preparation for further education, increasing job skills and competencies, and interpersonal relations. Ninety-four percent indicated they would recommend their major program to friends; overall the college was rated above average.
