Effectively Teaching Undergraduate Social Research Via Computer Data Analysis.
Brown, William R.; And Others
An approach is described for teaching undergraduate sociology students social research skills through student use of packaged computer programs while carrying out their own research projects. Two back-to-back courses focus on training in data collection methodologies, followed by training in data analysis using the computer. In order to meet the needs for accurate information in future decision making, it is strongly suggested that additional social research electives be offered on a regular basis. Given the present level of computer technology and the cautious addition of methodological innovation and training, we can expect a surge in the rate and quality of functional information which sociologists can provide for those in positions of authority.
