Nigeria: A Study of the Educational System of Nigeria and a Guide to the Academic Placement of Students in Educational Institutions of the United States.
Margolis, Alan M.
Written as a guide to be used in the admission and placement of Nigerian students in U.S. institutions of higher education, this study discusses the education system of Nigeria. Following an historical summary of the Nigerian's education system, information is provided on Nigerian primary education, secondary education, external examinations, teacher training, technical vocational education, nursing education, and higher education. Placement recommendations are integrated into the text and summarized in the final chapter. It is noted that the Nigerian educational system does not lend itself readily to the traditional educational ladder since alternative routes are available for entry into many Nigerian subsystems or programs. Linear diagrams of the number of years of school, plus the order in which the programs are taken (and the certificates, diplomas, or degrees which may be obtained enroute) for each type or level of education, are shown in the appendix.
