Papers presented at an April 1977 workshop assessing the growing interest in making local materials the subject of study in the humanities are provided. Section I contains three background papers: "The Local-Global Studies Paradox," by John Badgley; "Community History: The Roots of the Problem," by D'Ann Campbell; and "An Experiential Model of Learning," by Rhoada Wald. Section II includes 19 papers provided by individuals from George Washington University (GW) with comments on courses and programs in which they were involved. Primary emphasis is on GW experiments with field study, which is described as involving some combinations of "local studies" and "experiential education." (SPG)
