Native Students Services. Fourth Evaluation Report, 1976-77.
Brooks, Ian R., Comp.; Moore-Eyman, E., Comp.
The Native Students Services (formerly the Indian Students University Program Services) provided support and tutorial services and outreach programs to Indian students. During the 1976-77 program year, the basic plan of operation developed during the preceding four years was continued. Students came from all parts of the province, from north of Slave Lake to the Blood Reserve on the southern border of the province. Six more students graduated this year, including the first of the Outreach students. The Outreach Program included three years of University of Calgary courses taught on a reserve with the fourth year courses taken on the University campus. This publication presents the reports of the academic coordinator and the tutor/counsellor on the students' progress and the improvements of the Native Students Services; an account of the interviews conducted to evaluate the third year program for students from the Stoney Reserve and from Calgary who participated in an inter-cultural program at Morley; and detailed reports of the projects of the Office of Educational Development. The various reports discussed program funding, advisory committee, staff, student enrollment and academic achievement, facilities, course load, tutor/counselling services, the Achievement Test for Indian Children, the Computer Assisted Learning Project, the Compendium of Native-Oriented Education and Employment Training Programs, and a preliminary study of the locus of control in Canadian Indian children.
