The COMPS course is a basic introductory computer course taken by first year Computer Systems students. Eighteen students took the course with Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI), while the rest of the students took the course in the conventional classroom setting. Although there was no difference between the two groups' mean group performance scores, the CAI students on the average required only 80% of the time required by the other students to complete the course. Other aspects of the course discussed include examination of the mastery model, summary of student attitudes, associated costs, and recommendations. (VT)
