Freshmen: A Portrait of Stability. (General Background, Expectations and Attitudes of Incoming Freshmen at Bowling Green State University, 1973-76).
Litwin, James L.; Rentz, Audrey L.
An analysis of survey data collected at Bowling Green State University during the years 1973 to 1976 found that the objectives, attitudes, and background characteristics of successive classes of entering freshmen have remained very stable. While differences between men and women on certain traits are at times fairly large, the magnitude of the differences have also remained constant. Entering freshman classes have become increasingly pragmatic, concerned with entry-level job training. They are also increasingly agreeing with the use of grades and fewer indicate an interest in active societal involvement. There is an increasing trend for students to apply to and be accepted at other college and universities, even though they eventually do attend Bowling Green State University. Several implications of the data are considered for program planning and class composition. (MSE)
