The study was conducted to determine the relationships among the attitudes held by 198 high school principals toward the work-study program and the handicapped, selected program variables, and background variables of interest. The research design entailed four phases: (1) selecting a sample of 100 high schools in Texas with work-study programs; (2) developing questionnaires; (3) collecting data from the principals on background information, attitudes toward the work-study program, and attitudes toward the handicapped; and (4) performing standard statistical analysis on the collected data and on data from the Research and Training Center study. Among conclusions were that high school principals had more positive attitudes toward normal persons than those who were classified as learning disabled and mentally retarded, with attitudes toward the retarded being the least positive; that background variables of high school principals were interrelated on a limited basis; and that variables most predictive of program effectiveness were role performance ratings of principals and attitudes toward work-study programs.
