This mini-packet is designed to help school districts that are writing educational goals as part of the Local Planning and Assessment Process (LPAP). The mini-packet has two basic uses: to acquaint teachers and the lay public with what developing educational goals will require and to guide a committee in writing goals. Of the various methods through which districts can establish educational goals, the district should choose to employ the one with which it is most comfortable. This mini-packet outlines a series of thirteen activities that can be undertaken in goal development. Three components are included for each activity--the objectives for each activity, the group or individual responsible for conducting the activity, and the steps to be accomplished to complete the activity. Criteria are listed for evaluating proposed goal statements, procedures for obtaining community reaction are suggested, and means for determining approval and support for the goals are presented.
