Situations and Characteristics Related to the Adoption and Implementation of Innovative Practices.
Aylen, Donald; And Others
The personal characteristics of teachers and the situational characteristics of work settings were identified and studied in relation to adoption and implementation of innovations among teachers. One hundred teachers were administered a questionnaire to identify teacher and situational characteristics. A subsequent interview determined the teachers' adoption and implementation behavior. Through an application of ANOVA and correlational and regression analysis, those characteristics related to adoption and implementation were identified. Variables such as professional involvement, recent inservice activity, the existence of a staff committee in the school, and class size were found to account for a significant proportion of variance of implementation scores. Implications for renewal in the schools were clearly evident from the results of the study. (Author/IRT)
