Handbook for In-Service Trainers in Consumer Education.
Brooks, Thomas M.
This handbook for trainers in consumer education contains three main sections: content outlines, learning activities, and resource materials. The areas covered by the content outlines are: financial management, consumer credit, and the consumer in the economy. The learning activities section comprises a sampling of the best activities identified through teacher workshops. Included in this section are: (1) a compilation of various learning activities, resources, and miscellaneous activities that can be used in presenting consumer education subject matter; (2) a hands on pretest where each question involves the student in an activity; (3) three games that can be used in teaching budgeting principles, money management, and the three different types of political/economic systems; (4) suggestions for a consumer education night meant to educate people in the community in various consumer topics; (5) directions for leading an economics field trip, including suggestions for organization, preparation, a worksheet, and a follow-up discussion; and (6) complete instructions on a marriage and money project that can be adapted for units on insurance, housing, budgeting, and comparison shopping. Finally, a resource list of films, filmstrips, pamphlets, and articles is provided in the last section. (Author/JK)
