This publication is a certification manual for the commercial pesticide applicator's permit of the Michigan Department of Agriculture. The information presented in this manual is designed to assist prospective commercial pesticide applicators to meet certification requirements under federal guidelines. The first of the eight sections deals with pesticide laws, both state and federal. The second section discusses pest management methods. The third section details pesticide labeling. The next section differentiates the different types of pesticides, their different formulations, and touches upon their toxicity. Section five discusses human pesticide safety, symptoms of poisoning, treatment, and precautions against poisoning. Section six discusses environmental pesticide safety and the movement in and effects on the environment of pesticides. The next section discusses application equipment, rate determination, and equipment maintenance and calibration. The final section discusses the different types of pests and the principles of their control. A glossary of terms and some information on certification are also included along with self-help questions at the end of each section. (MR)
