The report identifies, reviews and synthesizes relevant literature related to migrant children, migrant education in the United States and in Pennsylvania, teacher training, and auxiliary services for migrants. Topics covered include the migrant child's communication and intellectual skills; mobility and academic achievement; the child's self-concept; perceptions of migrant children's behavior; physical health and learning; parent-child relations; common problems concerning research with migrant children; areas of needed research; pre-service, inservice, and other teacher training experiences; training of teacher aides; day care centers; health services; and services for "resident migrants". A profile of the curricular emphasis, classroom format, instructional approaches, materials and strategies, placement, attendance, use of the MSRTS, and social structure of the area's migrants is given for nine summer migrant education projects operating in Pennsylvania in 1973. Thirty-two recommendations specific to each area of the review are given, i.e., greater care in evaluation design must be taken, especially in the use of statistical data, definition of variables, and reliability and validity evidence for measures employed; greater effort should be undertaken to design and evaluate educational programs for migrants on the secondary and adult levels; curricula for teacher, teacher aide, and paraprofessional training should be designed specifically to accommodate the migrant child's needs.
