Individual Differences Among College Students in Cognitive Structure and Physics Performance.
Thro, Mary Patricia
Individual differences in cognitive structures resulting primarily from exposure to physics content were investigated in this research study. Thirty college students were divided into a treatment group of 19 and a control group of 11. A regression analysis indicated that individual differences were probably operative. An analysis of variance showed that 35 percent of the variance in cognitive structure correlation with content structure could be accounted for by group membership. Information was available on individuals' cognitive structure from subject weights obtained from INDSCAL. Tracing the development of individuals' cognitive structures and matching them to content presented is concluded to possibly increase students' comprehension and enthusiasm. (Author/LBH)
