Described is Vermont's program of individualized driver education for handicapped secondary students 15 years or older and for disabled adults no longer in school. Sections outline the following program components: three R's of driver's education (responsibilities of the schools, regulations of motor vehicles, and rights of the handicapped student); program development (including research on driver education programs around the country, a project to develop motor vehicle regulations, and inservice training on handicaps for driver educators and motor vehicle inspectors); assessment of the special needs of the handicapped individual; Vermont's procedures on driver education for the handicapped; sample forms for program use; recordkeeping; program costs; and definitions. Tips for driver educators are illustrated with pictures throughout the booklet. (SBH)
