Children's Books for Times of Stress. An Annotated Bibliography.
Gillis, Ruth J.
This annotated bibliography evaluates and describes picture books designed to help children, ages three to nine, and their parents cope with a variety of emotionally stressful situations ranging from death, divorce, and hospitalization, to feelings of shyness, jealousy, and fear. Some of the books reflect positive feelings like friendship and family love. Two hundred sixty-one books are organized into the following seven major categories, many of which have further subheadings: emotions, behavior, family, difficult situations, new situations, self-concept, and friendship. The guide is cross-indexed according to author, title, and illustrator. (MAI)
