The Study Skills Element of the Wisconsin Design for Reading Skill Development: A Case Study. Technical Report No. 422.
Kamm, Karlyn
This report describes a case study conducted to determine the way two elementary schools implemented the study skills element of the Wisconsin Design for Reading Skills Development and to assess the program results. Following a description of the Wisconsin Design and its study skills element, the report outlines the design of the case study; describes preliminary inservice teacher training, program planning, forming of skill groups, instructional activities, and procedures for testing students and recording scores; and reports the program results with regard to pupil performance, teachers' strategies, and students' and teachers' attitudes. It then presents guidelines for implementing the Wisconsin Design study skills element. An appendix lists skills and objectives for the study skills element for seven sequential levels, which roughly correspond to the levels kindergarten through grade six. The skills listed include those involved in alphabetizing and organizing information and using maps, graphs, tables, and reference materials. (GW)
