Self-Awareness. Level Two/Three. Career Guidance.
Cooper, Irene
Materials contained in this career guidance unit are designed to develop seven- and eight-year-old children's awareness of the abilities made possible through their senses; these include visual perception and visual memory, auditory perception and auditory memory, and spatial relationships. This unit builds on the concepts introduced in a unit written for the primary grades (Self Awareness, Level One) but does not depend on it as a prerequisite. The seventeen activities included in the unit vary in length from twenty-five to forty-five minutes; the entire unit requires approximately ten hours of instructional time and because spatial, visual, and auditory skills are necessary in learning to read, this unit may be incorporated into the language arts curriculum. It is also closely related to the health and science curriculums. A variety of methods, such as games, puzzles, flannelboard story, cut and paste, cooperative activity, music and dramatization, are used to keep student interest at a high level and provide effective means of achieving the goals of the unit. Each lesson contains performance objective, note of materials and time needed, and steps for developing the learning activity. Patterns for use with activities are included. (TA)
