Defining the Effective Teacher: Provocations for Reform in Teacher Education.
Scofield, Sandra
OSSC Bulletin, v21 n6 Feb 1978
This document outlines the development of a program that would extend teacher training to include a fifth year of internship. A dual continuum of training is suggested. The first portion is designed to help the beginning teacher develop an adequate sense of self, poise, and a secure assurance that the classroom, pupils, and supervisors do not constitute a threat to personal development and growth. Equally important is the second concept of developing an effective teacher; providing skills focused on adequate management and instruction of students. Allotment of time for accomplishing set tasks, successful interaction with students, and understanding how previous theories learned in college may be transferred to effective teaching are considered fundamental in an internship program.
