Proceedings of the Conference of University Administrators (CUA).
Orton, F. J., Ed.
Selected papers and discussions from the Conference of University Administrators held at University College of Swansea on March 31 - April 2, 1977 are presented. The characteristics of a departmental administrator are described, as well as his responsibilities and relationships with members of the staff in the department, with the central administration, and with the student body. The value of the committee system in university administration is examined. The faculty administration at the University of Liverpool, England, is described, with a discussion of its merits and defects. The constitutional and structural evolution of higher education is analyzed in the individual university, a regional setting, and on the national scene. A discussion on career prospects for university administrators is presented and includes information on the number of administrators, grading structure, and age structure. Finally, the problems associated with the conflicting relationship existing between polytechnics and universities are examined. (SPG)
