Educational Programming for the Severely Multiply Handicapped.
Baken, Joan Wald; And Others
Discussed are educational guidelines and techniques for severely multiply handicapped children. Initial sections review characteristics and appropriate educational goals for the population. General teaching approaches are described, and specific suggestions are given for the followinq areas (subtopics in parentheses): positioning (effects of reflex responses); speech and language (phonological development, alternatives to spoken language); the classroom teacher's role in speech and language development (training attention and imitation, developing body awareness); basic concept formation; and communication skills. The booklet concludes with a listing of nine basic activity descriptions, including music, art, and design printing tasks. (CL)
