Intended for teachers of gifted children, the handbook is organized into teaching strategies with a brief introduction followed by examples for each strategy. Stressed is the use of the strategies to develop the teacher's own creativity. Described are the following strategies: self awareness activities (such as boundary breaking and encounter lessons); the use of models in curriculum building (such as those of J.P. Guilford and B. Bloom); creativity (as it relates to process and product); the use of questions as an aspect of discussion; guidelines for using small groups; independent study; constructing a "Things to Do" box; simulation (with examples of teacher developed simulation games); inquiry, particularly as it relates to science; use of a central stimulus as a focus for enrichment in the arts, music, and literature; synectics (use of a product matrix, personal analogy, and metaphor); and guidance and counseling of gifted children and their parents.
