Transdisciplinary Evaluation of Children. Final Report of the Southwest Regional Resource Center's Involvement with the Central Arizona Child Evaluation Center.
Renne, Diane J.; Moore, Jean J.
Presented is the final report of a project to demonstrate educationally relevant approaches to assessment of and prescription for severely handicapped children (0 to 21 years old) within an existing multidisciplinary diagnostic facility, the Central Arizona Child Evaluation Center. Part I provides introductory information with a definition of transdisciplinary assessment, an overview of the demonstration project, and a review of the evaluation process used before project implementation. Outlined in Part II are changes which took place in process (such as introduction of a case management system) and in structure (including expansion of the funding base and funding sources) which occurred as the transdisciplinary approach to assessment evolved. Discussed in Part III are the composition of the team and a description of the children served, the clinic process (which includes intake and case development, two assessment phases, and staffing and follow through), the parent resource library, the center's bilingual capacity, and the roles of the family and the school. Briefly discussed in Part IV are such future needs as the expansion of the natural settings team to include representatives of the psychoeducational disciplines. Appended materials include forms used at the Center, the advisory council and executive board by-laws, a case history, a list of frequently used instruments, and questions educators should ask following assessment.
