This training packet is intended to aid school administrators and resource personnel in developing school volunteer programs and in involving the community in the schools through volunteer programs. Section 1 of the packet presents basic information on school volunteer programs, focusing on the rationale for volunteer programs, the role of volunteer programs in schools, the development and organization of volunteer programs, the role of volunteers in schools, and the recruitment, training, and support of volunteers. Section 2 contains suggested outlines of workshops designed to prepare school administrators, teachers, and volunteer coordinators for their role in developing and implementing school volunteer programs. The appendix lists various reference materials relevant to school volunteer programs and presents sample materials and forms for use in developing and implementing volunteer programs. (JG)
