Experimental Item Types to Measure Judgment.
Northrop, Lois C.
The Professional and Administrative Career Examination measures judgment ability using comprehension and logical order of events item types. Since the verbal component of comprehension items is high, and since these items are extremely difficult to write and document, a search was conducted for a simpler item type for assessing judgment. Three alternative item types were investigated: word selection, evaluation of comparisons, and analogies. It was concluded that no clearly satisfactory replacement for the comprehension item types has been found. Item statistics for word selection and evaluation of comparisons were very similar to those for comprehension; while analogy items were more strongly associated with verbal and reasoning abilities than with the other item types which assess judgment ability.
