Evaluation of Educational Programmes in Nursing.
Allen, Moyra
The basic criteria for evaluating a nursing education program involve: the relevance of its goals, activities, and outcomes to the needs of the country or the community; the relatedness of its different parts in seeking and achieving common goals; and its accountability in assuming responsibility for its goals, methods, and outcome. The proposed design for evaluation discusses the collection of evidence, comparison of the data to the criteria, and analysis. The various purposes of program evaluation may include the development of an ongoing evaluation project, the incorporation of an evaluation system within new programs, or the promotion of comparative education studies. Further elaboration of the proposed evaluation design and forms which provide a framework for data analysis are appended. Three stages of the program are appropriate for assessment purposes: the initial planning phase, the implementation--including the goals and curriculum, and the long-term outcome. (Author/GDC)
