Survey of 1976-77 Graduates, Community Colleges. Student Flow Project, Report No. 35.

A survey was administered to all 2,377 1976-77 graduates of the Hawaii community college system. General, academic, and employment information, as well as a general evaluation of the college experience were elicited and a 65% response rate was achieved. Analysis indicated: (1) 48% of the respondents were employed, 27% were enrolled in school and also employed, 13% were enrolled in school, and 5% were unemployed; (2) of those attending school, 50% were liberal arts majors, 69% were full-time students, and 59% were seeking Bachelor's degrees; (3) of those employed, 70% were working full-time, 34% felt their present job was the type in which they would probably make their career, 41% felt their jobs related to their major field of study, and 34% felt their jobs were not at all related to their major field of study; (4) in evaluating their college experience, 71% considered getting a degree as very important, 54% indicated they were very satisfied with the knowledge they had gained from major courses, and 48% indicated they were somewhat satisfied with the total experience at college. Data are analyzed for the community college total and for each of the seven colleges in the system. Extensive tables presenting the survey results and the survey instrument are appended. (LH)
