The Media Specialist and The Reading Program.
Florida State Dept. of Education, Tallahassee. Right to Read.
This publication offers suggestions for conducting in-service teachers' workshops in which participants explore the relationship between the media specialist and the reading program. The first section describes procedures for effective workshop planning; other sections provide suggestions for teaching about the reading process and the reading program, the media specialist's role in planning the reading program, motivating the teacher and the student to use the media center, media-center management, and community relations. Each section describes possible workshop topics, outlines strategies for presenting them, and lists related resources. The publication includes a number of materials of practical use to reading teachers and media specialists, including media-center handbooks designed for teachers and students in a middle school and a handbook of learning activities for parents to use at home with their young children.
